Guide to Colorado's Disc Golf Courses in Castle Rock

By Jason Cangialosi of Associated Content

Working our way up from deep south of Denver in Castle Rock to the outer limits of Golden, these are the greater Denver area's Disc Golf Courses. Below is a review of the Castle Rock, Colorado Disc Golf Course.

Castle Rock
Matney Park Disc Golf Course

Get there off I-25 to the Wolfensberger Exit, follow until it turns into Wilcox, then head east on 5th St., which turns into Hwy 86, then go south on S. Ridge Rd., to Appleton Way, turning right on Lantern Trail Circle. Parking is right next to the ball field and playground, where the first 3 holes are, and then the rest of the course is across Lantern Trail Circle. The course is 18 holes and wide open, with the only hazards being humongous telephone poles along the course's east side. The tee-boxes are all natural, but not manicured and only marked with wooden posts. There are a couple of good course maps posted around the course too. There are lots of long straight distance shots making it a good course to get your Huk on. There's not a lot of variety to the course and the land is a future site for a high school, making it's future questionable.

For those not savvy to the ways of disc golf, here it is in a nutshell:

Disc Golf is basically played just as traditional Golf, but instead uses specialized Frisbee Discs and metal baskets as targets instead of balls, clubs, carts, and holes. A Disc Golf course also utilizes the natural landscape of parks and open areas instead of the manicured courses of traditional golf.

A course usually has 18 baskets (holes) which are laid out around an open area, utilizing trees, hills and water as natural obstacles to players. Along with the 18 strategically placed baskets, there are coinciding platforms (tee-boxes) placed between 200 and 600 ft. from the baskets from where players toss their discs.
